Red Cross Water Safety Instructors (WSI)
The Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Course prepares candidates to instruct the Red Cross Swim programs. Candidates focus on strategies to introduce and develop fitness activities, skills and water safety, and swimming skills in the Red Cross Swim Preschool, Red Cross Swim Kids, Red Cross Swim @ School, Red Cross Swim @ Camp, Red Cross Swim for Adults & Teens, and Red Cross Swim Adapted programs. The course consists of skills evaluation, online training, hands on teaching experience and classroom and pool sessions.
Prerequisite: 15 years or older by the last day of the WSI - Classroom and Pool, ability to perform Red Cross Swim Kids 10 strokes and skills, and hold one of the following certifications (not required to be current): Red Cross Assistant Lifeguard, Emergency First Aid or equivalent
Lifesaving Society Swim Instructors
The Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor course prepares the instructor to teach and evaluate the swimming strokes and related skills found in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program. Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, planning skills, and a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques.
Prerequisites: 15 years of age by the end of the course; Bronze Cross certification (need not be current).
Lifesaving Instructors
The Lifesaving Instructor course prepares instructors to teach the Lifesaving Society’s: Canadian Swim Patrol Program, Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Lifesaving Fitness, Distinction,Basic and Emergency First Aid, and CPR-A, CPR-B and CPR-C
Prerequisites: 15 years of age by the end of the course; Bronze Cross certification (need not be current).
